John Sanders

John Sanders, who lectures on quarry and asphalt technology, among other topics, is a quarry engineer who also works as a consultant to the aggregates industry, undertaking project investigation, and managing quarries and depots.

From 2003-12, he was Unit Manager at the South Staffs Unit, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations, and for managing safety, environmental, quality and restoration issues at two quarries, a mothballed asphalt plant, and a landfill site. He also oversaw the landfilling and restoration of four other sites.

Previously he was Unit Manager at Middleton Hall Quarry, advising site managers across five separate sites on safety, environmental, quality and restoration issues, and performed a similar role as Site Manager at ARC Centre, a sand and gravel dredging operation.

Since 2006 John has lectured at Doncaster College and the University of Derby, and made a number of presentations at the Heidelberg Aggregates Academies, in Europe and contributed material for the Academies’ presentations in the USA. He works closely with Staffordshire Education Department, organizing school visits, and is the co-author of three books and two CDs on quarrying extraction and material uses, and a further CD on sustainability.

John is a member of The Institute of Quarrying, Chartered Institute of Management and Institute of Asphalt Technology.
