A qualified mining engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying, he has also been extensively involved in training, resolving disputes and setting and achieving financial targets within the industry.
Hugo’s 40 years in the industry have taken him all over the world working for such companies as HeidelbergCement Group, Aggregate Industries, Lafarge and Svedala, and Kotobuki Engineering and Manufacturing Co (Japan).
Over the past six years, he has been involved in process analysis and improvement planning for over 90 aggregates production units.
During a three-year consultancy to a major Japanese company, he was involved in introducing innovative sand-making and concrete recycling technology to the European market.
In addition to holding various quarry management positions, he has also been responsible for the application and sales of processing equipment, project management, including CDM, continuous improvement support and sand process development.
He has recently been running extensive tests at a cutting-edge plant in Sweden; results are producing data that shed new light on the process of manufacturing sand.
When not on site getting his hands dirty, Hugo spends his time fishing, rebuilding a couple of old Rileys and restoring his fleet of scruffy boats.
